About Frisian News

Independent bilingual journalism from Fryslân, covering world events through a Frisian perspective.

About Us

Frisian News is a bilingual news publication covering world events through a Frisian lens. Every article is published side by side in English and Frysk, so readers from both traditions can follow the same story in their own language.

The publication is a project of De Fryske Wrâld, a non-profit organization based in Fryslân, the Netherlands, dedicated to preserving and promoting the Frisian language and culture. De Fryske Wrâld also operates LearnFrisian.com, a free platform for learning West Frisian.

Frisian is the closest living language to English and one of the oldest Germanic languages. With roughly 500,000 speakers, it is classified as a minority language under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. We believe that language is living heritage, and that journalism in Frysk helps keep that heritage alive.

Editorial Policy
