Amsterdamsk Jild Keapet Fryske Doarpen Op

May 19, 2026 · Frisian News

Remote work and low prices have sent a wave of urban buyers into the Frisian countryside, pushing locals out of a housing market they grew up in.

In pleats yn it doarp Jirnsum dat yn 2018 foar €180.000 ferkocht waard, ferwiksele foarich maitiid fan eigner foar €420.000. De keaper wie in pear út Amsterdam, beiden op ôfstân wurkjend. Se binne fan plan it as wykeinwenning te brûken.

De lokale famylje dy't it hawwe woe, in monteur en in basisskoallearer, seach har bod ôfwiisd omdat it in hypoteekbetingst befette. Kontant jild wint.

Dit patroan werhellet him troch hiel Fryslân. Stedske keapers, in protte út de Rânstêd, ûntdekke dat Frysk plattelânbesit romte, rêst en prizen biedt dy't noch altyd goedkeap lykje yn ferliking mei Amsterdam, ek al binne se ferdûbele of ferdriefâldige yn ferliking mei fiif jier lyn.

Foar Friezen dy't hjir grutwoaden binne en bliuwe wolle, klopje de sifers net mear. De provinsjale oerheid hat praat oer foarrangskeaprjochten foar lokale bewenners, mar der is gjin wetjouwing ta stân kommen.

Nimmen yn Den Haach leit dêr wekker fan. Harren stimjouwers wenje hjir net.

A farmhouse in the village of Jirnsum that sold for €180,000 in 2018 changed hands last spring for €420,000. The buyer was a couple from Amsterdam, both working remotely. They plan to use it as a weekend home.

The local family who wanted it, a mechanic and a primary school teacher, had their offer declined because it came with a mortgage condition. Cash wins.

This pattern is repeating across Friesland. Urban buyers, many from the Randstad, are discovering that rural Frisian properties offer space, quiet, and prices that still look cheap compared to Amsterdam, even at double or triple what they were five years ago.

For Frisians who grew up here and want to stay, the numbers no longer work. A young couple in a local trade cannot compete with a dual professional income from the city. The villages that survived for centuries through tight community bonds are being hollowed out, one property sale at a time.

The provincial government has discussed priority purchase rights for local residents, but no legislation has passed. Meanwhile, the housing stock in rural Friesland shrinks, rents climb, and the character of the countryside shifts.

Nobody in The Hague is losing sleep over this. Their voters do not live here.
